News and Notes around MLB

Jose Reyes is feeling good this Spring

- Adding insult to injury the Denver Post is reporting the Feds want to talk to Rockies closer Huston Street. Street is out at least this weekend, and probably longer, after complaining about shoulder stiffness after an aggressive batting practice session.

- CNBC’s Darren Rovell is reporting the Yanks will need to repay $10K of their playoff share, which was just over $365K. The Yankees divided up $21.2 million after winning their 27th World Series title, but two trainers and a player did not receive the appropriate full share. The Yanks were on the books for the highest share ever given, but the miscalculation means the 2006 Cardinals still hold the record when their players and coaches received $362,173.

- The Arizona Diamondbacks locked up their 22 year old all star OF Justin Upton for six years and over $50 million. It was a no-brainer as Upton will become the face of the franchise as early as next season. The DBacks buy out all of Upton’s arbitration years and he will hit the market as a 28 year old and will command one of the largest salaries of all time. I wonder what team he will be playing for?

- Jose Reyes told the New York Daily News, ” … my leg is good. Nothing to worry about.”

- The Cincinnati Enquirer is reporting 2008 first round pick Yonder Alonso is ready to hit big league pitching but they do not have a spot for him. 1B Joey Votto is not going anywhere and they re-signed Scott Rolen to a three year deal this off-season. The Reds will need to make a move or throw him in their terrible OF.

- Our own Jay Maguire is reporting Rangers pitcher Neftali Feliz will start the season in the bullpen.

- Maguire is also reporting Brewers starter Jeff Suppan is not in the team’s plans and GM Doug Melvin is trying everything he can to find a taker.
