You get much more pop on a larger surface (larger sweet spot) of an aluminum bat versus a the surface of wood (much smaller, requires a better hitter). Aluminum bats mask weaker hitters and inflate numbers. A guy who hits 20 hr's with an aluminum is still going to hit 12-15 with wood; but the guy that hit's 5 will get 1 or 2 at best.
