Reds right-hander Bronson Arroyo took a no-hitter into the eighth inning in the Tuesday night match-up against the Brewers. Once he got into the eighth inning, though, it quickly went downhill.
After a walk to George Kottaras, Taylor Green followed it up with a double into the right-field corner, which ended Arroyo’s shot at being yet another pitcher to have a no-hitter. It got worse though…
Corey Hart doubled in two runs after that, which then spoiled Arroyo’s chances at a shutout. When Arroyo was pulled from the game after 7-2/3 innings of work, he allowed three runs on three hits. Those three runs gave up the Reds’ lead and tied the game.
Despite all the hard work, and then the quick downfall, Arroyo did not get the win. Drew Stubbs of the Reds hit a dinger off of Brewers closer John Axford in the bottom of the eighth inning, which put the Reds on top. Sean Marshall was the pitcher-of-record at the time, so he ended up getting the win after Reds closer Aroldis Chapman did not allow a run to score in the top of the ninth.
