A.J. Pierzynski Is A Bit Pissed About Being This Year’s All-Star Snub

The fan vote declared that Rangers catcher Mike Napoli will be the AL’s starting catcher for the All-Star Game. His numbers: a .235 batting average, 12 home runs, and 30 RBIs. Orioles catcher Matt Wieters was selected as the back-up catcher by the players. His numbers: a .247 average, 11 home runs, and 40 RBIs. And finally, AL manager Ron Washington selected Twins catcher Joe Mauer. His numbers: a .332 average, five home runs, and 32 RBIs.

Washington said that he felt bad that Pierzynski did not make the All-Star team, but Pierzynski is selling Washington’s comment. He told the Dallas Morning News that if Washington felt that bad, “he would have put me on the team. He had an opportunity to do it and he didn’t do it. He can feel as bad as he wants, but he obviously didn’t feel that bad.” When Pierzynski was told that Napoli was a good hitter by a media member, Pierzynski said: “Yeah, if you consider .230 good.”
