I’m sure we all have strange habits, some more strange than others. However, Bobby Valentine’s habit of sniffing baseballs during pitching changes is pretty odd if you ask me. Recently, he has been caught sniffing baseballs while waiting for relievers to run out from the bullpen. Here’s what Bobby V himself had to say when he was asked why he sniffs baseballs:
“I like the smell of it. Must be the [Delaware] mud mixed in with that Taiwanese leather. I don’t know why I do it. It’s kind of weird. I don’t think it affects the guy coming in. I don’t spit on it or anything. When I smelled it last night, I said someone’s going to ask me why I’m smelling this freakin’ thing. It’s kind of stupid, isn’t it?”
