My eyes must be deceiving me. It’s September 5th, and in the AL East, the Baltimore Orioles are in a tie with the New York Yankees for first place. What on earth? The last time when the Orioles were playing relevant baseball was in 1998, when they won 98 games and lost in the ALCS to the Cleveland Indians. Hey, at least it’s better than the Pirates, who have played relevant baseball this year for the first time since 1992!
The O’s, who sit tied for the division with a embarrassment of run differential (-19), crushed the Toronto Blue Jays in 12-0 fashion last night. The Tampa Bay Rays also beat the Yankees 5-2 last night. It should also be noted that the Rays are currently sitting 1.5 games behind the O’s and Yanks. Crazy.
