According to ESPN Dallas, Josh Hamilton has agreed to a contract with the Angels. The deal is worth $125 million over five years. Once again, the Angels have struck gold in free agency – remember that they nabbed Albert Pujols last year.
This signing makes the Angels have an outstanding amount big-name players and talent: Hamilton, Pujols, Mike Trout, Zach Greinke (whom they just signed a few days ago), Vernon Wells, Mark Trumbo, Jered Weaver, and C.J. Wilson. With Hamilton’s addition, I’m thinking that Trumbo could possibly be traded.
It was reported earlier in the off-season that Hamilton was seeking a seven-year contract worth $175 million. He got a five year deal instead of a seven, but he still got his wish of getting paid $25 million a year. Back when that report came out, I wrote the following:
“I think it would be best for a team to offer Hamilton a four-year contract worth $100 million …”
Dang, I was pretty close.
