According to the New York Daily News, Nick Swisher has left the Yankees for the Indians, signing a four year, $56 million contract with Cleveland. The Rangers, Mariners, Red Sox, and Orioles were among the other teams that were interested in Swisher, but the Indians seemed to want him the most.
The Daily News says that “the deal includes an easily-attainable $14 million vesting option for a fifth year based on plate appearances that could bring the total value of the contract to $70 million through the 2017 season.”
As compensation, the Yankees will receive a draft pick.
During his four-year tenure with the Yankees, Swisher averaged 26 home runs and 87 RBI during the regular season.
